Description
A stunning new broadcast quality documentary…
Balmoral, motor ship consort to paddle steamer Waverley, is Britain’s most widely travelled excursion ship.
In this programme we join the ship on 27th June 2009 for a sailing round the Isle of Wight to celebrate the 60th anniversary of her launch at Thornycroft’s Woolston shipyard. As well as key interviews with passengers and former crew from Balmoral’s Red Funnel days, the programme includes quality archive footage and rare views of public rooms, engines and bridge. Balmoral is now based on the Bristol Channel and carries the livery of P&A Campbell’s White Funnel Steamers. The sailing on 27th June 2009 was sponsored by Red Funnel Ferries, the ship’s original owners.
Written and presented by Chris Phillips, filmed & edited by award winning director David Ellery, with original music by Jonathan Cohen.
